matcha tips & tricks

Ah matcha, the real superhero amongst tea! 'But what's all the fuss about?' we hear you ask. Well, listen up! Just one serving is equivalent to TEN cups of regular green tea in terms of nutritional value, pretty amazing, right? Matcha provides a steady, sustained release of energy throughout the day, supports your metabolism, helps keep you alert and focused and even promotes healthier skin. It's an absolute favorite with us because it tastes good, does good and is bright, bright green!

Whether you’ve been on the matcha hype for quite some time now, or you’re just starting out, we’ve put together a handy little list of some things to remember...

is your matcha real?

These days there are so many different varieties of matcha on the market that we understand it can be a bit overwhelming when it comes to picking the right one. When on the hunt for your matcha, you should always make sure it’s in powder form - say no to matcha tea bags! Matcha needs to be ingested to reap all the benefits (you won’t consume as much of it, if you’re only drinking an infusion from a teabag). It should be bright green and say it's made from 100% pure green tea leaves. The most authentic matcha is grown in Japan and will say it's 'premium', 'ceremonial' or 'high grade' so look out for that, too.

store it properly

Once open, we recommend storing the tin in the fridge to keep it fresh. One tin has 30 servings, so it’ll conveniently last you one whole month if you take it once a day.

only use a gram

One gram of matcha is all you need to get all its super powers. Luckily, we’ve got some handy little matcha measuring spoons which are perfect if you’re using a tin. Alternatively, we have matcha latte sachets (in a range of flavors may we add!) so the right measurement is already prepared for you - perfect for when you're on the go.

always give it a good whisk!

Lumpy matcha, anybody? Uh, no thanks! When making matcha to drink, always remember to whizz it up with a splash of water or milk first, then top it up and whizz it up again. Perfect!

don’t be afraid to mix it up!

There are so many exciting ways to get your matcha fix – you could add it to water, smoothies, sprinkle it on your porridge, pop it in some overnight oats, shake it up into a cocktail with some gin… the possibilities are endless! More recently we've been experimenting with matcha in savoury dishes - our quinoa salad with matcha chilli dressing has gone down very well! Just remember, there are a few things matcha doesn't go too well with - adding it to tea or coffee is a big fat no-no with us!
